The Blog is Dead, Long Live the Blog!

Hello visitors and fellow makers!

This blog is temporarily on break until a new champion of documentation and blogging rises to the call!

Please enjoy the posts of days gone by and feel free to explore the other areas on our site that show what we’re up to.

Our meetup page is especially good for checking out events both past and future.

And don’t forget the photos! So many projects!

If you’re a member and want to stay in the know, be sure to join our slack channel.

HackRVA is alive and well. We’re always up to something. For now, we’re just not posting as much.

Until then, see you at the space!

Caster Cars – “The Parking Lot Swamp Boat of Your Dreams”

The video speaks for itself.  It is violent, fun, and almost out of control. This isn’t your granddad’s RC car.

Caster Car inventor Andy sez:

“Traction?  Brakes?  Since the advent of the Model T Ford, these have been widely assumed to be an essential part of the driving experience.

This is totally wrong.

With casters for wheels, caster cars have no traction, and no brakes.  They’re always drifting, using the thrust from two propellers to control their motion.  A computer and gyroscope (a re-purposed drone flight controller), help to stabilize the vehicle.  Snow and water conversions are possible as well.”

Here’s a link to the meetup where HackRVA’ers built some. Racetrack competition pending!

HackRVA Winter Remodel!

Hello hackers, makers, and fellow doers-of-things!

HackRVA decided to get in the “remodel mood” this winter.

We got a little crazy and built such things as a sliding barn door for the tech lab, beautiful new work tables, custom computer desks, and an outdoor metal working area .

Thanks to all the members who helped build it! And a special thanks to Matt for doing a lot of the heavy lifting. These projects exist because of his extra effort and dedicated labors.

Check out the cool pics below, AND more pics after the break below!

Stand Up Guitar

Um, dang!

I was sorta shocked that this beautiful instrument was made almost completely at HackRVA by Carl (and he did almost in secret).

There are many cool things that get made at hack, but I wanted to take a moment to point this one out. Just… yeah!
